New Council Member Appointed to the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council

Following an open selection process through the Public Appointments Service, the Minister for Finance, Mr Michael McGrath TD, has appointed Prof. Stephen Millard as a Member of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council. The appointment is effective from June 17th. As Prof. Millard is filling a vacancy which arose on 1st July 2023, his initial term expires on 31st December 2024, with an option of reappointment thereafter.

Short Biography
Prof. Stephen Millard is the Deputy Director of Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) in the U.K. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Durham University Business School since 2011 and at the University of Portsmouth since October 2021.

Stephen previously worked at the Bank of England. His research interests include inflation dynamics, the labour market, monetary and macroprudential policy. Stephen has a PhD from Northwestern University and has published in journals such as the Economic Journal.

Selection process
The selection process for this appointment was undertaken in accordance with the “Guidelines for appointments to State Boards” published by the Government in November 2014. The vacancy was advertised on Stateboards.ie and managed by the Public Appointments Service.
